A resident of Manhattan Beach for thirteen years, Mary Jo Ford was born the youngest of seven children in Omaha, Nebraska. Her father was raised an orphan in Father Flanigan’s Boys Town, served as a Marine Master Sergeant in the Pacific Theater in World War II, and when he passed away in 2000, he was buried with full military honors. Mary Jo Ford’s father, along with her mother – who helped support the family by working at the school cafeteria – ingrained in her a love of country and the belief that government’s primary role is to provide safety and opportunity for its citizens.

Married to her husband, Dr. Noel Lee Chun, for fifteen years, Mary Jo Ford is the proud mother of three children: Cheyenne, 14, Dakota, 10, and Sequoia, 8 – and her youngest children attend our local public schools.

After finishing her Anesthesiology Residency at Columbia University in New York and working as a pain physician for several years in Los Angeles, Mary Jo Ford founded her own company, Phoenix Pain Medicine, in 1998. A fiscal conservative and business entrepreneur, Mary Jo Ford’s company now has nine employees. Her husband, who is an Assistant Professor at the UCLA School of Medicine, works at her firm.

A recognized expert in the field of anesthesiology, Mary Jo Ford has written, taught and consulted about her specialty in pain management while serving as a Diplomat with both the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Academy of Pain Management.

Mary Jo Ford is also a member of the Beach Cities Republican Club, the Manhattan Beach Republican Women Federated, the Lincoln Club and the California Women’s Leadership Association. She has contributed widely to various charitable organizations including the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the Nature Conservancy, the Manhattan Beach Educational Foundation and Doctors Without Borders.
